RA ES Minister Receives Red Cross Representatives: Border CommunitiesResilience to Disasters Increases

On March 13, Minister of Emergency Situations of the RA Davit Tonoyan received Mrs. Caroline Douilliez, Head of the Delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to Armenia.

During the meeting, the opportunities and areas of cooperation between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Armenia and the International Committee of the Red Cross were discussed, in particular, programs to reduce vulnerability and increase the population's readiness to natural and man-made disasters, as well as activities aimed at preparing the population for emergencies in the border villages of Tavush region.

The parties agreed on the support of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the matter of replenishing the criteria for the construction of “safe rooms” for schools and kindergartens in the border villages of Tavush region.

In his speech, Minister Tonoyan highlighted the importance of expanding the skills of rescuers serving in MES bases in border communities, the process of providing first medical aid and full security, for which they came to an agreement with the organization on organizing courses for improvement and practical trainings on the spot.

At the end of the meeting, the parties reached an agreement on the joint work of the RA MES and the International Committee of the Red Cross Yerevan office in the format of the annual cooperation plan.
