The US Embassy in Armenia donated firefighting hand tools and equipment to the Ministry of Emergency Situations

On January 10, donation ceremony of handing over 1500 items of firefighting hand tools and equipment (costing 102,000 USD) to the MES of RA by the US Embassy was held on the parade square of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of RA .

The event was attended by the ES Minister Feliks Tsolakyan and the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the USA in the RA, Lynne Tracy.

Minister Tsolakyan thanked the US Ambassador Mrs. Lynne Tracy, the US European Command and the Office of Defense Cooperation of the US Embassy for the effective cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of RA and support since 2003.

In the framework of the Kansas-Armenia Partnership, begun in 2003, a number of mutual study visits, training courses, conferences, seminars and exercises were held, equipment (costing over 1 million USD) was provided through the US European Command's Humanitarian Assistance program and reconstruction, modernization and repair work of a number of Fire and Rescue Squads and bases were carried out.

"I am hopeful that the current friendly cooperation between us will be continuous and we can confidently state that the cooperation between the Ministry of Emergency Situations of RA and the US Embassy in Armenia has seen steady progress and development in recent years, raising them to a qualitatively new level," highlighted Minister Feliks Tsolakyan.

Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Armenia Mrs. Lynne Tracy noted with satisfaction the high level of cooperation between the US Embassy in Armenia and the Ministry of Emergency Situations of RA.

Mrs. Lynne Tracy also expressed hope that the donated hand tools and equipment would help enhance the Rescue Service firefighting capacity.

“The 1500-item hand tools and equipment designed to combat wildland fires will assist in firefighting capacity building in Armenia to respond to such fires and mitigate the consequences. This donation is another example of the close relationship between Armenia and the United States," specifically mentioned Mrs. Lynne Tracy.

ES Minister Feliks Tsolakyan and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Republic of Armenia Mrs. Lynne Tracy toured around the parade square of MES of RA and studied the donated firefighting hand tools and equipment.

During 2019-2021 period in the buildings and fire depots of the Fire and Rescue Squads of Shirak Regional Rescue Department of the MES of RA repair work and personnel capacity building activities will be implemented through the US military European Command's Humanitarian Assistance program. Within the framework of the program new Fire and Rescue buildings will be built in Gyumri town and in Ashotsk village, and renovation work will be carried out in Akhuryan village and in Ani district of Gyumri town of Shirak Province.
