Resilience enhancement program in schools of Syunik province

The Ministry of Emergency Situations carried out “Disaster Risk Management Preparation” small grant program (equivalent of 4000 USD) in the secondary schools of Angeghakot, Shaghat, Shaki and Uyts settlements of Sisian community of Syunik province of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The main goals are to improve the safety of pupils and staff in public schools, to reduce the risk of disasters, to develop knowledge and skills in the field of emergencies, to increase disaster resilience.

The secondary schools of Angeghakot, Shaghat, Shaki, Uyts settlements of Sisian community of Syunik province were equipped with fire panels, first aid kits, stretchers, loudspeakers, evacuation schemes, evacuation conditional signs and school furniture (cabinets, bookshelves, etc.) were attached to the walls to reduce earthquake vulnerability within the framework of the program.

The planning officers of the Rescue Service of the MES provided methodological assistance to the secondary schools in the development and implementation of the disaster risk management plans.
